free + my favorites: fonts

Look. I know the whole deal with finding good free fonts. You search them all over Pinterest, read a ton of blog articles, and scour Dafont.com looking for as many decent free fonts as you can find. And if you are anything like me, you can never have enough. So let me do you a favor and help ya out a little. These here, are ten typefaces that are free and some of my absolute favorites. I tried to mix it up a little, giving you some you may not expect, and making sure to not just create a list of fonts that everyone else has already shared everywhere. So, without further ado:

Favorite Bold and Original: You probably see this typeface everywhere by now, but yet, people aren't sick it yet. It's bold and original yet meshes well to a large variety of different looks. You can find the typeface Carton on Lost Type Co-Op, which requires an option donation.

Unique and Graffiti-Inspired: Colors of Autumn perhaps is a strange choice to put on this list of free typefaces, maybe because I have never found this on anyone else's lists before. While it definitely doesn't go with every design (as a matter of fact, I use it pretty rarely), it does looks really rad when you create something that is unique and plays off of it's graffiti inspired feel. I think it's a fun one to keep in the mix.

Favorite Basic and Versatile: I use this typeface all the time, and I love it. Need I say more? You can find Didot for free here.

Everywhere on my Designs: I likewise, put this typeface, Quicksand, everywhere. Weddings, posters, packaging designs, print designs, web designs, you name it. It just works. It's clean looking, simple yet original, basic yet hardly basic at all. The perfect mix of worlds clashed.

Favorite Italic: I am currently playing with using this on a t-shirt design, it's a brilliant typeface and luckily, you can currently have this one option for the typeface for free. It's definitely not the typeface you would use for mass amounts of body text, but it's perfect when you want an italic type for a small heading or area of text and you're stumped on finding something different. You can find Gist Light here for free.

Thin 'n Thick: I use this typeface interchangeably with Didot. Usually, when I need something that reminds me of Didot yet I want something a bit bolder with a bit more of an impact. This does the trick. You can find Otama here for free.

Perfect Wedding Typeface: Another typeface that you are probably seeing everywhere lately, but nonetheless, you should definitely have this in your collection. Arizona is the perfect calligraphy-inspired typeface that doesn't feel too fancy and doesn't feel too casual.

Fun Script: This isn't a typeface I would typically be drawn toward, but I find myself using it more than I would have ever expected. Wrexham Script is a solid option for a cursive typeface with more of an impact.

Totally Hipster: For you guys that love all those trendy posters and instagrams lately, this type is probably totally up your alley. And hey, my style isn't even hipster but Silverfake is one of my favorites.

Block (With a Twist): Straying away from the more out there, one-of-a-kind fonts, is a more basic typeface. While most of the letters are more plain, there are some pretty cool letters in the mix that don't give you quite what you expect. I tend to really love this type when it's used for small, short words in the main headings. You can find Intro here for free.

Happy Free-Font Hunting!
